RallyRide ("we," "our," or "us") operates the RallyRide mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Full name
- Email address (must be a valid .edu university email)
- Phone number
- Class year (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)
- Chapter/organization affiliation
Location Data
We collect one-time location snapshots in two specific scenarios:
- When a rider submits a ride request (to determine pickup location)
- When a designated driver marks themselves as "en route" (to calculate estimated arrival time)
We do not perform background location tracking. Location data is captured only at the moment of the action and is not continuously monitored.
Vehicle Information
Designated drivers provide vehicle details (make, model, and color) to help riders identify their vehicle.
Device Information
We collect:
- Push notification tokens to deliver ride status updates
- Device platform (iOS or Android) for notification compatibility
Usage Data
We maintain ride history logs including pickup and dropoff details, timestamps, and ride status for safety and audit purposes.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Match riders with available designated drivers
- Send push notifications for ride assignments, driver arrival, and ride status updates
- Calculate estimated arrival times using pickup and driver locations
- Prioritize ride requests using our queue algorithm (based on class year and wait time)
- Process emergency ride requests and alert chapter administrators
- Manage chapter membership and designated driver assignments
- Maintain ride history for safety and accountability
Third-Party Services
Our App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

- Within your chapter: Your name, phone number, and vehicle information are shared with riders and designated drivers within your chapter as necessary to facilitate rides.
- Push notification providers: Your device token is shared with Firebase Cloud Messaging and Expo to deliver notifications.
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
- We do not share your data with advertisers or marketing companies.
Data Retention
- Ride history is retained for safety audit and accountability purposes.
- Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Assignment data is cleared during annual year transitions (August 1st each year).
- You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see "Your Rights" below).
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Firebase Authentication for secure access control
- Role-based access controls (admin, member, designated driver)
- Firestore security rules restricting data access to authorized users

You have the right to:

- Delete your account and associated personal data by contacting us at the email below
- Opt out of push notifications through your device settings
Account Deletion
You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at rallyridesafe@gmail.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
RallyRide is intended for use by college and university students who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a minor, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
